Clonazepam, Serum

Serum clonazepam is used to monitor drug levels in the body during treatment, to monitor patients' compliance with treatment, and to evaluate any drug toxicity.

Clonazepam (Clonazepam, Rivotril) is a medication belonging to the benzodiazepine group used in the treatment of convulsions and myoclonus. Peak serum clonazepam levels are achieved within 2 hours after oral administration. The drug is metabolized in the liver and excreted by the kidneys, having a half-life of 20-40 hours. After taking the medicine a burning sensation in the mouth can be observed.

Blood clonazepam measurement is used as a control for drug use and for monitoring therapeutic levels during long-term use. Clonazepam is used for the treatment of convulsions or myoclonus, as a sedative, as anxiolytic, for persistent hallucinogenic perception disorder (HPPD), in unstable arterial hypertension, panic disorders, monopodial depression, pediatric depression, reducing spasticity in cerebral palsy.
