Ecstasy, Urine

This test checks the urine for the presence of the drug ecstasy.

3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), also known as ecstasy, is a psychoactive drug that, when taken orally, takes effect after 30-45 minutes and lasts for 3-6 hours.

The toxic effects of MDMA use include addiction, memory problems, paranoia, difficulty sleeping, tooth cracking, blurred vision, sweating, and tachycardia. Use can also lead to depression and fatigue. MDMA increases the release and slows down the reuptake of the neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine in different brain areas. A short-term decrease follows the initial increase in neurotransmitters.

MDMA is detected in the urine 1 to 3 days after the last dose.

The test is carried out with others, at Drugs of Abuse Profile, Urine.
